Saul Richardson

Australasian Board Representative - Saul Richardson

Saul Richardson is a guitarist and bass player who graduated in 1995 from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours in Education and the University Medal. He studied jazz guitar under Steve Brien and Steve McKenna, and conducting with Jerry Nowak. Richardson is director of jazz at North Sydney Boys' High School. The comprehensive program he established and developed there is now widely regarded as a benchmark of excellence in jazz education in Australia. IAJE rrecognizedhim during the 2004 IAJE Annual Conference for his outstanding service to jazz education.

As a performer, he has worked with many of Australia's leading jazz artists and groups including Ed Wilson, John Morrison and Swing City Big Band, Andrew Firth, Roger Frampton, Don Burrows, Andrew Firth, Col Nolan, Keith Stirling and Tony and Bob Barnard. He has performed throughout Australia, the UK, Europe and in the U.S. Saul is also director of the NSW Department of Education and Training Arts Unit Stage Band and the SCEGGS Redlands Senior School Stage Band. He is past director of the Blue Riff rehearsal big band. He is a founding committee member of IAJE in NSW, and is busy as a clinician, consultant and adjudicator.

Past Board Representative - Brian W. Copping

Brian is currently the Jazz Coordinator for the Western Australian Department of Education's School of Instrumental Music. He is also a former Australian and WA IAJE President. A professional musician, he played with the Will Upson Big Band, was musical director for the Perth Wildcats and has performed in many stage shows, including backing visiting artists like Robert Goulet and Sammy Davis Junior.
