New South Wales SectionIAJE Events in NSWManly International Jazz Festival 2008: Saturday October 4 -
Monday October 6.
The Manly Jazz Festival has a long history of supporting Jazz Education by dedicating a stage to student and community ensembles.IAJE NSW auditions student and community groups applying to perform at this prestigious event. IAJE volunteers also work as stage managers and MC's on the IAJE Stage throughout the festival. Performance slots are available on the IAJE NSW stage to school, university and community groups. Overseas groups are welcome to apply. Other student groups, those not organised within a school, may be considered only if there are unfilled performance slots .HOW TO APPLY To make the selection fair and equitable the association (IAJE NSW) will provide a panel made up of professional jazz educators to assess ensemble audition recordings. The panel will listen to each ensemble without knowing which band is being assessed. The panel will then decide which ensembles would play at the festival. There may be an allocation given to one Primary School Big Band per day of half an hour performance and the rest of the time slots will be allocated accordingly. The festival’s music director has the right to place applicants into the festival if need be and preference will be given to “Big Bands.” Smaller ensembles may still apply and will be given positions with the same process mentioned above, if positions are available. The recording and application:

About IAJE in New South Wales IAJE NSW is in no way a "closed shop", and need not be restricted to Sydney! If you want to get involved, contact us and we can make things happen. If you are from outside Sydney and would like to develop jazz and jazz education wherever you are, please get involved. IAJE is all about people working together to make things happen for the better in their local area. We can all do far more as an association than as isolated individuals! The IAJE NSW committee was convened in August 2003 with the goal of establishing IAJE in Sydney and NSW. As well as all the broader goals of the IAJE worldwide, this committee aims to raise the profile of the association; previously little known in NSW, and the benefits of support and collegiality it can offer. The committee is:
The committee has received significant input and support from many Jazz educators and performers in NSW, including Eric Dunan, Judy Bailey, John Morrison, Tim Crow, Jeremy Borthwick and John Speight. Click on the IAJE logo to return to the home page |
